Unit Titles Act Update

July 2007

What is a Unit Title?
Thousands of people in New Zealand now live in medium and high density Unit Title developments and this trend is set to increase in the future. Unit Title ownership means that you have ownership of your defined dwelling (“unit”), and that you also have joint ownership in common with other unit owners of your shared areas (known as “common property”) such as driveways, swimming pools, courtyards and lifts etc. Multi storey buildings, apartment complexes and townhouse developments (including pensioner flats) are common examples.

Christchurch Jazz Festival

April 2008

Cavell Leitch Law was proud to be a major sponsor of the New Zealand International Jazz and Blues Festival held in April 2008. Our sponsorship of the event (including sponsorship of nine nights of performances in the Great Hall of the Arts Centre) enabled the festival to bring some fabulous international and local talents to Christchurch for this two week festival.

Mufti Day

July 2007

Visitors to our office will have discovered that every second Friday all staff are given the option of dressing down from their usual formal attire and wearing mufti clothing instead.

The New Property Law Act

April 2008

On 1 January 2008 the Property Law Act 2007 came into force, replacing the 1952 Property Law Act and several other related Acts, including a number of old English ones going back as far as 1257.
