Christchurch Boys' High School - Business Partnership
Cavell Leitch Law has entered into a partnership with Christchurch Boys' High School to bring the curriculum to life for students by bringing real world challenges into the classroom.
In 2005 Cavell Leitch Law began discussions with Christchurch Boys’ High School about how the firm could help contribute to the School in non-monetary ways through the skills of our team or the business connections we might have.
Elizabeth Deuchrass was brought into the discussions to help facilitate this goal through the use of The EDAL® Way - a six step process of merging enterprises with classroom learning. The system is designed to stimulate students by having them work on real world projects as part of their curriculum, helping to bring everyday classwork to life.
Each year since 2006 the partnership between Cavell Leitch Law and CBHS has undertaken a range of exciting projects.
Food Technology In one instance, Cavell Leitch Law held a “Topical Trust Issues” seminar for business contacts and clients in the “Big Room” at the School. The Year 12 Food Technology and Life Skills students used the near-new state of the art kitchen classroom facilities to prepare, cook and serve morning tea and lunch food and drinks to the invited guests.
Prior to the event the pupils were required to interview the Managing Partner of Cavell Leitch Law Julian Clarke on what the food requirements for the event were and then Food Technology Teacher David Neighbours had six weeks to prepare a menu, have the pupils practice making the required foods and to train them in how the food should be presented and served to the guests.
The event was a complete success with the venue, food and service all being praised by the attendees.
Art Class In another instance the students in the Year 12 Art / Photography / Design classes have designed the Cavell Leitch Law Client Christmas Cards each year since 2006.
The students are required to interview partners and staff from Cavell Leitch as to the firm's design requirements and then under the supervision of their teacher Lila Price work through from initial concepts to final art works for judging by the team at Cavell Leitch.
Each year the designs are excellent and the judging panel has an extremely difficult choice to make.
The School and Cavell Leitch Law have been delighted with the success of these projects and plan to repeat them and to introduce others to continue to bring the curriculum to life in the future.
