Competition Law

Competition law is becoming more important globally and nationally as merges and take-overs of business threaten to reduce the natural competition that is available within the market place.

Broadly, competition law relates to the following;

  • Prohibiting practices or agreements that restrict free trading and competition between businesses.
  • Banning abusive behaviour by a dominant firm in the marketplace or practices that may lead to a dominant position; and
  • Supervisory functions (such as the Commerce Commission) around merges and acquisitions of large businesses

Our firm has been involved in advising clients in relation to the activities of their competitors or their own proposed activities and we would be happy to talk to you specifically about the competition law issues that your business faces.
