Gareth Abdinor

Gareth is a dedicated employment specialist who began practising law after establishing an extensive academic background.  He also worked in the Education, Public, and Private Sectors before retraining as a lawyer.  Gareth was a member of a respected employment law team at another major South Island firm before moving to Cavell Leitch in 2008.

Gareth is experienced in acting for both employers and employees in all aspects of the employment process.  He understands the benefit of developing ongoing relationships with his clients to understand their practical needs and he enjoys this aspect of his role.

Gareth's unique and varied background assists him in seeing both the legal and practical aspects of employment situations that his clients face.  This enables him to help develop contracts, policies and procedures that are tailored to their business to maximise the efficiency and value of their employees while minimising the risk of any employment related issues.

He is a LEADR trained mediator and has extensive experience advocating for clients in both private and Department of Labour facilitated mediation.  He is also an experienced litigator and can represent clients in the Employment Relations Authority, the Employment Court, and the District and High Courts.

Gareth is actively involved in the Canterbury legal community and has sat on and convened a Law Society Committee.  Additionally, Gareth  has held the position of Law Tutor (Torts) at the Canterbury University School of Law.

In Gareth's spare time he enjoys motorcycling, shooting and hunting, and practicing and teaching Aikido.
