"Our firm has taken advantage of employment law advice from Cavell Leitch Law since it began in 1994. On the rare occasions where we have encountered a personal grievance, we have sought advice from Scott Fairclough. Scott has always been ready to offer very sound advice - whether procedural or actively legal and has greatly assisted us to solve all of our issues. For the last few years we have not even entered into employee "negotiations" without first seeking Scott's advice. This practice of pre-arming ourselves with his advice has been essential in making sure that we deal with matters in a fair and honest manner and has ensured that the number of "problem" situations is kept to an absolute minimum." Tim Stonhill, General Manager, Hotel Grand Chancellor Ltd
Scott's Profile
Scott has spent the vast majority of his career practising in the areas of Family Law, Estates Law and Employment Law.
Over the last three decades each of these areas has evolved significantly and has become more and more complicated to the point where it is no longer possible to be an "expert" in these areas without focusing exclusively on them. Gone are the days when a general practitioner can give advice relating to family law matters.
The Property Relationships Act in particular, has blurred the lines even further in relation to the ownership of property between couples, trusts and estates, and a good practitioner needs to have a clear and powerful grasp of all three areas to be able to properly advise clients on the best course for them to take.
Scott has acted for a large number of estates and has assisted dozens of our firm's private and commercial clients in relation to personal and trust ownership issues where the law makes it complicated to guarantee the control and protection of your assets.
There are only a handful of lawyers whose practice has enabled them to fully grasp the complexities of the new law as it applies to trusts and Scott is one of them. As a seminar presenter on this subject at the LexisNexis Rural Law conference in Wellington in August 2005 he is clearly recognized as one of Canterbury's few experts in this area.
Born and bred in Canterbury, Scott attended Christ's College and has traveled extensively overseas. He has two fantastic children, is a passionate skier (competing in many Masters events annually) and is also a regular attendee at most significant social events in Christchurch.
For specialist advice on the above areas we invite you to make contact with him at our firm.
