Increased processing times for New Zealand temporary entry visas
New Zealand Immigration Update: February 2020
In response to the recent Coronavirus outbreak, the New Zealand Government has temporarily closed the Immigration New Zealand (INZ) Beijing office.
In response to the recent Coronavirus outbreak, the New Zealand Government has temporarily closed the Immigration New Zealand (INZ) Beijing office. This closure has resulted in delays for the processing of temporary visa applications. The most impacted applications will be those made under the Essential Skills work category.
INZ have been transferring what would usually be processed in Beijing, to other INZ processing offices. To manage the magnitude of applications being transferred, 50 immigration officers have been reallocated from the Essential Skills processing team, to assist with the Beijing work. With fewer immigration officers working on Essential Skills visa applications, allocation time-frames will increase, to approximately 6-8 weeks.
INZ are trying to minimise the disruption as much as possible, but if you have employees applying for a temporary visa for NZ, particularly under the Essential Skills category, you should anticipate delays in processing.
If you have any questions or concerns about any of this, please contact the Immigration Team at Cavell Leitch for advice.
