Matt joined the Cavell Leitch team in 2015 and 2016 as a Summer Clerk while completing his law degree at Victoria University.  After completing his studies in 2017, Matt completed our graduate programme where he gained invaluable experience across a number of the firm’s specialist teams.  In September 2018, Matt was admitted to the Bar and joined our litigation team.

Since joining the litigation team, Matt has acted on a number of earthquake insurance matters which involved him appearing as junior counsel in a six week High Court trial which was also Christchurch’s first electronic hearing.  Matt also has experience advising regional and district councils with rates matters and advising financial institutions on defaults and enforcement of mortgage securities.

Matt has a special interest in Sports Law, and is available to represent athletes and sporting bodies on disciplinary matters.
