Sophie leads the employment practice at Cavell Leitch. Sophie’s clients range from large multi-national corporate employers to small business owners, employees, and HR professionals. Sophie also takes instructions from insurers to act for insureds in employment disputes.

Sophie provides advice on the full ambit of employment law, including employee investigations and exits, personal grievances, formal processes, restructuring, employment documentation, privacy, and health and safety. Sophie is also well experienced in assisting employers with their obligations to employees when buying or selling businesses.

"I enjoy providing clients with practical and pragmatic advice in order to achieve the desired outcome. Often, with employment law, there are several ways to approach a situation, and I enjoy assisting clients to navigate those options."

Sophie helps resolve disputes through negotiation, mediation and before the Employment Relations Authority and the Employment Court. She also has experience in the High Court and the human rights and privacy institutions.

As a member of the general disputes resolution team, Sophie can also draw on her wider knowledge in a range of areas to assist with resolving disputes.

Sophie has a significant depth of experience and has developed a reputation for her strategic, practical and effective advice. She also regularly presents on employment law topics.

Sophie is passionate about animals and is a member of the New Zealand Animal Law Association.
