Sam joined Cavell Leitch in 2015 having worked at a North Island law firm since 2010.

 

He has experience acting for clients in a range of matters and has particular experience in:

  • Construction disputes including leaky building claims and defective workmanship

  • Advising on rights and obligations under construction contracts and the Construction Contracts Act 2002

  • Professional discliplinary matters

  • Professional negligence matters (acting both for and against professionals)

  • Insurance litigation including policy interpretation and declinations

  • Acting for a number of District and Regional Councils throughout New Zealand in respect of rates matters

 

Sam has appeared in the Maori Land Court, District Court, High Court and as junior counsel in the Court of Appeal.  He has also acted in a number of adjudications under the Construction Contracts Act 2002.

Recent Projects

Working with a number of residential and commercial building owners to resolve their earthquake insurance claims, including proceedings against EQC and insurers in the District Court and High Court;

 

Involved in District Court and High Court proceedings regarding defective earthquake repairs;

 

Acted on a number of construction disputes including adjudications under the Construction Contracts Act 2002;

 

Involved in High Court proceedings in relation to disputes between shareholders;
