Legal Secretary – Litigation Team

Thanks to a busy practice, we have the opportunity for a positive and supportive Legal Secretary to provide full time support in our Litigation team.

 

Reporting to the Litigation Partners, in this role you will be expected to work alongside our current support staff to provide high quality administration and secretarial support services to authors. The role will include:

  • Preparing legal documents (such as court documents, pleadings, and client correspondence). 

  • Preparing word processing as required for authors. 

  • Managing client contact.

  • Complete client due diligence for AML requirements.

  • Liaising with Solicitors, the Courts, the Crown, and other Government agencies.

  • Maintaining diaries for authors as required.

  • Support authors with client contact.

  • Open and close digital files in line with the firm's procedures and ensuring all documents and correspondence is correctly saved.

  • Accurately maintain and update the client database with regard to client contact information.

  • Assist authors with the monthly billing process.

 

We are looking for someone who:

  • Ideally has previous experience as a legal secretary/assistant, ideally in the area of Litigation or Disputes Resolution law.

  • Is reliable, process driven and able to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Has excellent planning and organisation skills which allow them to prioritise tasks, and work under pressure to meet deadlines.

  • Displays professionalism, discretion with client details, and possesses sound judgement.

  • Has excellent communication skills and a passion for delivering client service. 

  • Has excellent computer and typing skills, and the ability to grasp IT concepts quickly. The successful candidate would, for example, assist in preparing electronic bundles of hyperlinked court documents.

  • Knowledge of the Infinity Law Practice Management Suite would be of assistance.

Thanks to a very busy and growing practice, we have the opportunity for a lawyer with a minimum of 3 years’ PQE in our Business team. 

 

We are looking for someone who is passionate about this area of law and wishes to grow the practice. In this role you will:

  • Have experience with business acquisitions and disposals, financing, and commercial agreements (e.g., supply and distribution agreements) generally. Commercially minded applicants who may have experience in all of the aforementioned areas but wish to specialise in business law are also encouraged to apply. 

  • Be exposed to a range of industries including health, agribusiness, retirement, distribution, and manufacturing, including exciting opportunities to work alongside and grow with a number of start-ups as a long-term adviser and mentor. 

  • Be focused on delivering great client service by being a great communicator and by taking an empathetic approach to dealing with a wide range of clients. 

  • Be well-organized and efficient, managing priorities and deadlines to meet the clients’ needs in a cost-effective manner. 

  • Be able to work relatively independently but still with the team’s needs at heart. 

  • Be very reliable and self-motivated, and keen to drive your learning & development by taking advantage of the varied opportunities which Cavell Leitch provides.

  • Have strong people skills and enjoy generating a great team spirit. Having a good sense of humour and being supportive to your teammates will also help you to become a core part of the Business team. 

  • Be interested in actively identifying and leveraging opportunities to grow the firm’s client base in line with the firm’s strategic direction.

  • Be keen to keep up to date with the legislative requirements and changes within the commercial law practise area and work undertaken.
