Richard is a leading legal expert across property, agribusiness, and farm succession planning. His extensive knowledge of rural and residential property has him regularly advising individuals and businesses on trust and company restructurings, trust formations and management, and equity partnerships – particularly in the grazing and dairy sectors.
With over 25 years of experience, Richard advises on a wide range of matters involving the sale and purchase of property, including matters involving trusts & estates. He has considerable expertise in high-country farming matters, including tenure review and pastoral leases, which drives his interest in assisting farming families with farm succession plans and asset protection structures. Known for his practical and client-focused approach, Richard also regularly assists and advises clients around Wills, estate planning, and enduring powers of attorney.
His strong connection to the rural sector is reflected in his services as President of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association in 2014-2015. He continues to serve on the Association’s General Committee and acts for many rural companies and farmers throughout the South Island. Richard regularly presents at rural professionals’ seminars and conferences throughout New Zealand and was a past member of the High-Country Tenure Review Consultants Committee.
